I just came across this site that is looking for couples who have been struggling to get pregnant to be cast on a national talk show. Honestly, I don't know if this is for real, but I thought I'd pass on the information for you to take a look at yourself. Looks like today is the last day to appy, so hurry if you're interested.

Weight Loss Surgery Helps Women Overcome Infertility
I have written several times on this blog about research that suggests being overweight can make it much more difficult to get pregnant. In this article, they claim it is 40% harder to get pregnant for obese women. While studies show that losing weight through diet can cause dramatic improvements in fertility, this article discusses another option for losing weight and improving
fertility--gastric bypass surgery. Initial reports suggest that this method can improve the odds of getting pregnant, but there is one serious downside. It is recommended that you wait at least a year or more to try and get pregnant after having this surgery. That may be very difficult for couples who are older and can't afford to wait that long.

Acai Berry - Detox To Help Get Pregnant
OK, I have received emails from 3 people just this week asking me if I knew anything about the newest superfood that has been talked about on Oprah, Rachel Ray and in the news. I've done some checking around and this product does look promising. It's meant to detox your body and help with weight loss which are both important factors for your fertility.

This Herb May Help Your Fertility
One fertility boosting herb that I
have just recently read about is called MACA.
Maca is a Peruvian root-like vegetable that dries into a
butterscotch-tasting powder. Its adaptogenic
actions help normalize hormones.
Maca is used to increase fertility and libido
in both men and women by its effects of decreasing
estrogen, increasing progesterone and unbinding
testosterone, according to the research.
You can read some more about Maca here:

Fertility Treatment of No Benefit?
Some new research suggests that some couples may be wasting their time if they use Clomid or artificial insemination when trying to get pregnant. It's not that these two fertility treatments don't work, because they absolutely do. The research applies to couples who have "unexplained fertility". When doctors can't find a reason why a woman can't get pregnant, sometimes they will prescribe Clomid even if there is no problem with ovulation. In cases of "unexplained infertility" taking the Clomid doesn't help, according to this new research.
"But trials of 580 women in Scotland found the treatments were no
better than trying to get pregnant naturally, the British Medical Journal
reports."

Extreme Dieting Can Damage Your Fertility
Most of the research on diet and fertility focuses on how being overweight can have a negative impact on your fertility. What many people may not be aware of is the damaging effects of being underweight as the result of extreme dieting. It can make it impossible to get pregnant. Read more...
Extreme dieting can permanently wreck your health Mirror.co.uk, UK - 2 hours ago "Under the stress of extreme dieting or over-exercising, the body suppresses production of fertility hormones. This not only lowers sex drive but stops ovulation, so you can't get pregnant." |

A Miracle Story of Getting Pregnant?
I don't know whether I can believe this story or not.. The idea of a 57 year old woman getting pregnant with donor eggs is not that unheard of these days, as those stories always get a lot of media attention. What I find hard to believe is a woman being 30 weeks pregnant and not knowing it. In a healthy pregnancy, you would be feeling significant movement at this point, so how could she not have noticed that? You would have to be pretty oblivious not to notice... 57-year-old Brit woman finds lump is baby, not cancer Thaindian.com, Thailand - 6 hours ago Special needs teacher Susan and partner Nick Mayer, 46, spent 15000 pounds on fertility treatment in Russia and Poland over three years after they were ... |

Fertility Jewelry - Can It Offer Strength And Hope?
A friend of mine who is struggling with fertility problems recently received a gift that she shared with me. It was a beautiful bracelet made of rose quartz and moonstone beads. She told me that it was a fertility bracelet and she felt tremendous hope and comfort in wearing it while she continued her efforts to try and get pregnant.
I found out the bracelet was ordered from a website and I checked it out to see what it was all about. Here is a brief description of this bracelet from the artist who made it:
"Moonstone is said to have powers that aid in nurturing receptivity and balancing of the emotions. I included them in my fertility bracelet to help prepare the mama-to-be to welcome new life into her body, and into her life.
Rose quartz are the beads of love and fertility. They are said to help promote pregnancy and to protect the mother and unborn fetus from miscarriage.
Turtles are a potent symbol of both protection and fertility."
I wish I had known about this when I was going through my struggle to conceive. I think I would have really liked wearing a piece of jewelry that was meant to enhance fertility. It may not have magical powers, but it can be a symbol of hope and I think many women would benefit from this. If you want to go check it out, here is the link for the Fertility Jewelry

Heavy Cell Phone Use May Be Tied To Infertility
Here's an article I think is worth reading. While the research doesn't prove that cell phone use can cause reduced sperm count, there may be a causal effect. More research is definitely needed, but I think it may be best to cut back on the cell phone use for males trying to get their partner pregnant. Read more...

Ovulation Disorders Helped By Dietary Changes
Some new research from the Harvard School of Public Health cites dietary and lifestyle changes as having a significant impact on fertility for women who have ovulation problems. They claim that making simple changes to your diet and improving your health through exercise can help to improve ovulatory
function which is one of the common causes of fertility problems. Read more...
Women who followed a combination of five or more lifestyle factors, including changing specific aspects of their diets, experienced more than 80 percent less relative risk of infertility due to ovulatory disorders compared to women who engaged in none of the factors, according to a paper published in the November 1, 2007, issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
