Fertility Awareness Survey Says...

I just came across an article that speaks about how misinformed women are when it comes to fertility. Of course, this doesn't surprise me too much as I have found this to be true in my own research. It is why my mantra that goes out to my newsletter subscribers is "KNOWLEDGE IS POWER" and what led me to write my ebook, Personal Path to Pregnancy. According to this article, the results of a recent fertility awareness survey reveal that most women think it’s much easier to get pregnant than it really is. Here's a quote from the article:

For the study, presented at the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, 1,000 women ages 25 to 35 were asked 10 questions about fertility, and most of them flunked the test, according to MSNBC. Infertility is a huge problem in our country, and 7.3 million women in the U.S. struggle with it. This figure represents 12 percent of women of childbearing age, or 1 in 8 couples, according to the National Infertility Association RESOLVE. You can’t help but wonder if these statistics would improve if women had more accurate information about their fertility and opted to get pregnant sooner rather than later.

Ripley's Famous Fertility Statues on Tour in 2010

It may not be very scientific, but after a three-year world tour  in  the late 90s, Ripley's Believe it or Not received more than 2,000 letters from women who had become pregnant shortly after touching the statues – even though many had been told by doctors they would never conceive.

They will be touring again at various Ripleys Believe it or Not! museum locations around the United States including Florida, New Jersey, Maryland, Oregon, Texas, and a few other locations.  There is no charge to touch the statues, so if you are near any of these locations, you may want to make plans to stop by when the statues are on display -- it sure can't hurt!!  You can read more and get the schedule HERE.

Are You Eating and Drinking Toxic Chemicals?

It seems the more I research into the causes of infertility, the more I am convinced that the food we eat and the environmental toxins we are exposed to are a major contributing cause to the increase in fertility problems around the globe (as well as other health problems). I just came across this article which discusses harmful effects of bisphenol A, or BPA as it is more commonly referred to. This chemical is used in the production of many plastics such as bottles and in the lining of cans and, and it seems that it can leach into the food and drink that is stored in them. The result is a potential health hazard as this chemical is what's known as a "hormone mimicking" chemical. This means is can upset the hormonal balance which is so critical when one is trying to get pregnant. There are some things you can do to avoid ingesting this chemical. To read more, Click Here.

This Little Device Can Boost Your Chance of Getting Pregnant!

The other day I received an email from a reader of my newsletter alerting me to a product that can help boost fertility. I am always on the lookout for new products, but somehow I missed this one!

I checked it out and I think this is a fantastic product that everyone should try if you are looking to boost your odds of conceiving. It is rather inexpensive and can especially help those who are dealing with male factor issues such as low sperm count/motility.

While there is no scientific evidence that this will work, I am a firm believer in listening to the evidence of other women who have tried it themselves with great success. Often doctors will not recommend something because there is no "scientific evidence", but if it works for many others, why not give it a chance as long as it seems reasonable.

The product is called SoftCup and it basically is a type of cervical cap that will allow you to concentrate the sperm right at the entrance of the cervix to boost your odds of conceiving.

Here is the link--you can read many testimonials on that page from women who have used this method to conceive, many who were successful the first month trying it!

Can Great Sex Help You to Conceive?

For many couples struggling to get pregnant for a long time, the process of "baby-making" can indeed become a chore, especially for the male who is expected to "perform" on demand when the timing is right. Couples may be left wondering if the quality of the sex can have any effect on the woman's ability to actually conceive. Most would think that it doesn't matter, however this may not be the case. Can Kissing Help You Conceive?

According to an article in Conceive Magazine, "some serious kissing not only can improve your physical health but also your mental state of being, which could translate to possibly having an easier time at conception in the long run."

Most couples know that stress can be harmful to fertility, but what they may not know is that kissing may help to relieve stress among couples. Research has shown that infertile couples have a higher level of anxiety and depression, and that emotional distress is associated with difficulty in conceiving.

The good news is that kissing is an all-natural stress reliever which can help. It's been suggested that relaxing and cuddling, especialy with intimacy can improve fertility. It seems a kiss on the lips can actually trigger a rush of chemicals to be released by the brain which are known as "feel good" chemicals (dopamine, norepinephrine and phenylethylamine).

Kissing seems to have some general health benefits as well. It can relieve headaches, lower blood pressure, make skin glow and helps to put you in a state of contentment.

So, not only can kissing help to improve your physical health, but it can help to improve your state of mind which may in turn help you to get pregnant more easily.

And let's not forget, it's fun!!

Are Fibroids Keeping You From Getting Pregnant?

I'm going to keep this short...MANY of my readers have written to me to tell me of their success in treating their fibroids WITHOUT SURGERY using this program:

Stop Fibroids

So if you suffer from fibroids, and your doctor is recommending surgery to remove them so you can get pregnant, definitely check out this program first. It is MUCH easier and less expensive than surgery.

Get Support From Other Women Trying to Get Pregnant

One of the very best things that I did when I was going through my struggle to get pregnant, was to find other women who were going through the same thing.  Most women can find the situation to be very isolating, because it is not usually a subject they feel comfortable talking about to friends and family.  Often couples keep it to themselves that they are having difficulty in getting pregnant, while they listen to the constant questions posed to them about "When are you going to have a baby already?"  I found tremendous comfort in sharing my experience and listening to the experiences of others who were also trying to get pregnant.  How?  By joining an online support group!  There are many such groups around the internet but the one that I strongly recommend is called CafeMom. I LOVE this site because it is made up of women at various stages of being a "mom."  The members are a combination of women who are trying to get pregnant, already pregnant, and already a mom.  What's great is that there are various groups you can join and you will be surprised how much comfort you can gain by reading the posts of other women and also sharing your own thoughts and feelings.  The support is tremendous and it can greatly contribute to relieving some of the stress associated with the struggle to conceive.  And since research shows that stress can reduce fertility, this can mean that joining this site may actually help you to get pregnant!

There is no fee to join, so go check it out right now! Go to CafeMom

Can Your Shampoo Effect Your Chance of Conceiving?

When I recently released the new edition of my e-book, Personal Path to Pregnancy one of the topics that was included focused on the effects of environmental toxins on fertility. This is a very
popular topic right now as more research seems to indicate that there may be a strong link between environmental hazards and the negative impact on fertility.

Here is an article I recently came across that deals with this subject. Definitely worth a read!!

I just read an emotional story posted by a woman going through the struggle to conceive. Reading her story, I was reminded of all of the emotions I felt when I was going through my own journey towards motherhood. I know that many women feel very alone and often wonder, "why me?". I think this story will remind you that you are definitely not alone, and many women are going through the same emotional roller coaster.

Weight Loss Surgery Helps Women Overcome Infertility

I have written several times on this blog about research that suggests being overweight can make it much more difficult to get pregnant. In this article, they claim it is 40% harder to get pregnant for obese women. While studies show that losing weight through diet can cause dramatic improvements in fertility, this article discusses another option for losing weight and improving
fertility--gastric bypass surgery. Initial reports suggest that this method can improve the odds of getting pregnant, but there is one serious downside. It is recommended that you wait at least a year or more to try and get pregnant after having this surgery. That may be very difficult for couples who are older and can't afford to wait that long.

This Herb May Help Your Fertility

One fertility boosting herb that I
have just recently read about is called MACA.

Maca is a Peruvian root-like vegetable that dries into a
butterscotch-tasting powder. Its adaptogenic
actions help normalize hormones.
Maca is used to increase fertility and libido
in both men and women by its effects of decreasing
estrogen, increasing progesterone and unbinding
testosterone, according to the research.

You can read some more about Maca here:

Fertility Treatment of No Benefit?

Some new research suggests that some couples may be wasting their time if they use Clomid or artificial insemination when trying to get pregnant.  It's not that these two fertility treatments don't work, because they absolutely do.  The research applies to couples who have "unexplained fertility".  When doctors can't find a reason why a woman can't get pregnant, sometimes they will prescribe Clomid even if there is no problem with ovulation.  In cases of "unexplained infertility" taking the Clomid doesn't help, according to this new research.

"But trials of 580 women in Scotland found the treatments were no
better than trying to get pregnant naturally, the British Medical Journal
reports."

You can read more about it here:
